7 Quick Takes Friday #18

Sorry I didn’t post much this week. It’s been a little crazy over here with both kids up all night every night. It makes me bleary and disconnected, and I have trouble getting stuff done. Little Sir was up crying randomly for about 10 nights straight – last night was good so I’m hoping it is over. I did a post about that on our family blog. Also he went 2 days without napping which contributed to me getting nothing at all done by way of blogging.

Non-natural-parenting things I did this week: vaccinated Little Lady, put Little Lady on Prevacid (finally) for her reflux, let Little Sir watch too much TV, suddenly moved Little Sir’s bedtime to 1 hour earlier (you’re “supposed” to do that gradually, or just let them determine their own bedtime).

Some natural-parenting-type things I did this week: gave Little Sir homeopathic Kids Calms Forte to help him sleep better, took them both to their last chiropractic visit, bought 2 water slings to hopefully use with Little Lady when I take the kids to splash parks next week.

Speaking of splash parks, the other reason we haven’t gone to any this year yet is partially because I don’t have a swimsuit. There are 2 reasons I haven’t been to the store, and those reasons are my children. Whom I am not taking into a store to try on swimsuits. Can you imagine anything more painful than trying on swimsuits? Yes, it is trying on swimsuits with 2 children under the age of 2 in the dressing room.

Also, I am not even sure where to go. I haven’t bought a swimsuit since we got married more than 5 years ago. I can’t wear the ones I have because they are all 2-piece suits that would show my stretch-marked, pouchy stomach, which I am trying to ignore.

What I would really like is a nice retro suit like this one:

It makes me cry that this suit is only available in Large and Extra Large. Just because I’m not Large doesn’t mean I don’t need to camouflage something, people!

Anyone have any ideas where I can get a similar retro-looking suit? Preferably with the built-in tummy control like this one had.

In case you are wondering about the water slings/carriers for I bought splash parks and pools – here are the two I’ve ordered:

Water baby carrier from One Step Ahead

Bathing Buddies Shower Sling – I was not going to get a sling-type at all until this one popped up on BabySteals.com for $13, so I figured it was worth trying.

So, we’ll see how either of these might work at a splash park with Little Lady.
If I ever get a swimsuit.

In case you thought I’d forgotten, I am working on Part 3 of my natural skincare/makeup posts and also the Before and After of our bedroom switch for Part 2 of the Love the {Home} You’re With series. There will be vlogs involved in the Love the {Home} You’re With.

I have no idea how to pronounce the word “vlog”. I feel like pronouncing it as one word is weird but vee-log also sounds strange. Plus, it’s not really a video-blog exclusively, since the posts always contain writing in addition to the video!

Try H&M for retro swimsuits! (Or Anthro & Urban Outfitters, but they’re pricier.)  I found one similar last year – tummy control, but strapless, at Macy’s.

I had major issues finding a bathing suit this year, too.  I searched far and wide and finally found a few things that worked.  I wanted to find a suit pretty much exactly like what you have showing here- so cute!  But, I have a very long torso, so most one-pieces won’t even come up over my boobs.

I ended up ordering this beauty from jcrew: http://www.jcrew.com/womens_feature/NewArrivals/swim/PRDOVR~41914/41914.jsp

Expensive, but worth it for the confidence boost. I thought I had sworn off the two-pieces, but this covers in all the right places. They have some really cute retro style one pieces, too.

Also, after a suggestion from a relative, I ordered a suit from Land’s End.  I thought they carried just old lady suits, but I was wrong.  They fulfilled my criteria of a top with support (for those formerly BFing boobs) and good coverage around the middle.  They also make suits in a Long size, which is perfect for the slightly-taller-than-average person like me.  A lot of their tops have optional straps, too.

Everyone suggested Target to me, but their tops just don’t give me enough support and the one-pieces weren’t long enough.

    I hope this helps!!

Bathing suits…ugh. I still have 2 from many, many years ago that my husband always makes fun of because they are one piece and “ugly”. Whatever. I don’t like being uncovered personally.

I have never heard of water slings! Love the idea of those!
